Question: How do I find the master (virtual controller) in the IAP cluster?
Product and Software: This article applies to all Aruba Instant platforms and versions.
The IAP cluster has one master and the rest of the IAPs are local. The master is elected with the help of the Master Election Protocol.
The first IAP that is plugged in the network is elected as the master. With the help of Master Election Protocol, the subsequent IAPs identify the master and get the image and configuration.
When the master goes down or if the master is unplugged, any one of the IAPs is elected as the master (again with the help of Master Election Protocol).
To determine the master (virtual controller) during this scenario, follow these steps:
1. Open a web browser.
2. Type the IP address of any of the IAPs.
You are redirected to the virtual controller's IP address automatically. The browser now displays the master's (virtual controller's) IP address.
