Aruba switch in Cisco network

I just got my first Aruba switch to evaluate it as I’m looking at some switch replacements. From the switch side I’ve worked with Cisco for years and it’s what I know better, but some of my network of IT folks have been singing Aruba/procurve praises so I’m doing some testing.

I think I’ve got a handle in tagged/untagged ports vs trunks. In some testing today I set up my vlans to match my existing setup but I found I couldn’t reach any of them unless I set an IP address on that vlan on the Aruba switch. Is this normal? Is there a guide somewhere I could look at to see how to integrate an Aruba switch into a Cisco environment?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

following links provides you with guides, which translate Cisco to ArubaOS-Swicth CLI and vice versa.

If you know the cisco command, you'll find aruba command...

    Very detailed.

    https://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Wired-Intelligent-Edge-Campus/ArubaOS-Switches-CLI-reference-V3-3/td-p/291834

configure IP in a VLAN just to reach a client via layer2 is not needed. IP is only needed for routing or to access switch management in a certain vlan.

I have some other guides, dealing with interoperability between cisco and Aruba-Switches. (PVST vs MST and so on) But I cannot share them, cause they were provided to HP Employees and partners solely. Maybe you can ask your aruba partner for this information or assistance?

I searched a little, but didn't find links to download these guides for customers...

    Regards, Jö
