Problem:
Aruba Switch Firmware upgrade from 16.03.x to higher version failing with Airwave
Uploaded 16.03.007 to Airwave using SFTP protocol and tried upgrade firmware from Devices > Manage page but it failed after few minutes.
In device event log we are seeing message Firmware Upgrade: Error transferring the file. In device telnet_cmd log under /var/log/ap/ directory we are not seeing any log entries during this time.
In switch logging:
W 06/10/20 07:46:01 03311 sftp: User Aruba.Airwave: SFTP connection failure while connecting from 192.x76.136.xxx
I 06/10/20 07:46:01 03318 sftp: User scpuser40887: File transfer from 192.x76.136.xxx is in progress
I 06/10/20 07:45:58 00179 mgr: SME SSH from 192.x76.136.xxx - MANAGER Mode
I 06/10/20 07:45:57 03362 auth: User 'Aruba.Airwave' logged in from 192.x76.136.xxx to SSH session
We can manually upload the file using external SFTP server.
Enabled compatible ciphers option from AMPCLI > Configuration > SSHD > Use Compatible Ciphers, After this, we are able to SFTP file to switch.
16.03.x is old code which supports old ciphers. If strict ciphers option is enabled in Airwave, it will not be able to communicate with the switch and file transfer fails.
