Hi all, can anyone help ?

Have a guest network which uses a transparent proxy for web access.

To have users get proxy details automatically I want to use the DHCP option 252 to point them at an internal dhcp server, and then they will get the .pac file and then straight off to the proxy.

Is this possible ?   If so any idea on the 'option 252' syntax.

    Thanks

there are a few concerns. 1/it does not work with all Web browsers. AFAIK, there is RFE or bug filed at the Mozilla Firefox support. Not sure they already released a fix.2/ the option "Use automatic configuration script" in IE for instance should be checked.
    Hope it helps ;-)

As David stated, the clients will have to have "use automatic configuration script" configured.

For a truly transparent proxy solution, look into redirecting web traffic using either WCCP or Policy Based Routing.
