AOSCX - Shut does not remove power from the port?

    Posted Feb 26, 2020 04:11 PM

    Hi there,

I'm currently testing ArubaCX switch and face the following "behaviour":

    - If I shut a port, the devices are still powered

    - I can only remove power if I do a "no link-poe"

The problem here is that a "bounce" CoA will not remove power from a device. If I have a Computer behind a Phone, and I use dhcpv4snopping, the device will not re-ask dhcp because it will not sense the link went down. Because the phone never powers off.

Is this an expected behavior? All my other switches, Aruba or non Aruba, always shut down the power on "shut".

    Thanks

so as you know we have always-on PoE enabled by default for 6300/6400s, which could produce this behaviour

show power-over-ethernet will display if its enabled.

Please respond with the output from:

    show power-over-ethernet brief

Yes, I believe your earlier interpretation of what you gleaned from your previous research.

    Good day!

    Hello,

This is expected. We use same pair to carry data and poe.

    • Shutdown is for data
    • No power-over-ethernet is for poe

Same is true in case of AOS-Switches.

By default PoE is enabled on all poe capable ports or LC.

If you want to remove PoE please use "No power-over-ethernet", if you want to shutdown data, then use shutdown.

Can I override this so that Shut and (Clearpass) Port Bounce turns off-on power of the port?

Need this to support clients connected to my Polycom phones.

    Happy weekend!

Good request. AFAIK, currently not supported.

This is right enhancement feature, using AOS-CX REST API this should be possible. Please send your request to account team.

    Thanks,

    Yash
