Hi All, i have a question about the new 'revision D' SFP's and their compatibility. So i understand that the C series are pre-EoL and they are to be replaced by revision D but i wanted to check that if I replace a switch and use the new rev D SFP (example J4858D) and the far end of the fibre connection is a rev C (J4858C) that there is no incompatibility issue there? I know it states on the EoL announcement that rev D are 'Backwards Compatoble' but it doesnt go into any detail about what this means.

You are good to go. Rev D are essentially currently shipping versions.
We made the change to eliminate the possibility of using older versions of the Rev A, B, C parts on our newer switch families

Where both revisions are supported, Yes they do.

For reference have a good read about "Revision D" on the HPE Aruba ArubaOS-Switch and ArubaOS-CX Transceiver Guide (Edition Part Number 5200-3362 (Published May 2020).

I realize that i didn't really address the original point (Roblowe14

    two different implied questions:

    a) will the newer Revisions work in an older switch

    b) will the newer Revisions connect to the older xcvr on the other end

YES, the technology of a Rev C or Rev D (or even Rev E) are the same.

The newer Rev Xcvr will optically connect to an older xcvr of the same type;   J4858C over fiber will work with a J4858D.

Thanks Davide for watching out for this topic.
