    Hi

A customer have a lot of 2930F switches in multiple countries and I have seen an issue on random switches that they fail to sync time with an external SNTP server. But I have also seen the issue on 5406 Rzl2, 5412 ZL and 5412 Rzl2 switches.

In the log the following message appear:

    I 01/01/90 01:00:00 00413 SNTP: Updated time by -912340825 seconds from server
at 130.235.20.67. Previous time was Thu Nov 29 13:00:25 2018.
Current time is Mon Jan 1 01:00:00 1990.

After this the following is repeated on every SNTP sync intervall (720 seconds):
I 01/01/90 01:00:01 00413 SNTP: Updated time by -720 seconds from server at
130.235.20.67. Previous time was Mon Jan 1 01:12:00 1990. Current
    time is Mon Jan 1 01:00:00 1990.

Sometimes a reboot of the switch solves the issue, sometimes not.

I have tried to remove the SNTP configuration and put it back with no change in behavior.

But one switch updated correct after changing the SNTP sync intervall.

For users the problem is that the downloadable roles can't be applied as the switch doesn't think the ClearPass certificate is valid. Thus rejecting the downloadable role, and the device is conected to the guest network.

If the time is set manually when a switch is in a faulty state it will often revert the time back to 01/01/90 01:00:00 on next SNTP sync.

Software version WC.16.04.0009, on most switches. But I have noticed the behavior on other versions as well.

    Hi

Upgrade is planned but must have been postponed due to other tasks.

The SNTP sevrer is an external server on the internet.

After changing the IP to another server the function is more stable.

    Hi,

it seems that the IP address you are using has a pool of NTP servers behind it and one of those servers is providing you with an erroneous time (1990).

Sadly the 5400s do not provide a method to avoid syncing NTP time if the offset is too great.

    Cheers
