Sizing of Routing/Switching Infrastructure

Hi Everyone,


We have master local,local topology which we expect to grow to 6 controllers in total (6 controllers at 32k = 192k max supported end users).  All our controllers at the moment are 7240's and we are tunneling all our traffic back to the centralized controllers. It has been recomeneded not to do any routing within the controllers, but to install an external switching/routing infrastructure dedicated to wifi only. Does anyone have any recommendations on what has/has not worked in real world deployments of this size? or maybe point us to some design guides or referance documents that we can have a look at to help deal with the challenges of procuring and building a centralized routing/switching infrastructure for 100's of thousands of users?


PS we are quite broke due to being a pubicly funded organization :-)

For your switching infrastructure, it all depends on what your current infrastructure supports today. Generally our solutions are integrated with existing network topology not displace or require new gear to co-exist.

Just to add. I've found that many issues with upstream routing/switching is around MAC table size. Just be sure the upstream device can handle the number of MAC address entries required. Some "high end" switched still have an 8K limit.
