We have stack of 2 3810m switches.

Each switch has 2 fiber SFP Flex module (4 port) in Slot A and B

During a reboot port 1/A1 went dark, log showed 1/A1 self test error.

When i flipped the redundancy, port 2/A1 went dark, log showed 2/A1 self test error.

I pulled out slot A Flex fiber module and tested in our lab standalone switch, all ports came up(4 ports). So no problems with the Flex module.

I have upgraded the firmware, still port 1/A1 is dark

I flipped the redundancy, both port 1/A1 and 2/A1 goes dark.

Overall: During bootup, port 1/A1 or port 2/A1 has self test error.

However, when i did "erase all" the switch rebooted and all ports came up (1/A1 and 2/A1) was green.

But, when i reloaded the stack, issue returned 1/A1 went dark.

This is weird issue, HP is suggesting RMA the switch.

But this behaviour screams something software/iOS related.

    Anyone got ideas?

Well, it's difficult to say...from what you described...it smells of a software related issue...especially because tested in standalone mode each switch, as you wrote, behaves normally...but these are just my 2 cents.

    Greetings!

Could you please PM me the TAC case number(s) and the output of 'show tech all' from the switch stack in question, so we can make sure this is being investigated?

Just to provide closure for anyone who happens on this thread in the future — the issue was resolved by upgrading the stack to the latest switch software release (KB.16.08.0003).
