[AP-535] powered by 2x PoE (802.3af)?

    Hello,

    AP-555 fully works with 1x 802.3bt or 2x 802.3at. What about AP-535?

Instead of powering it with 1x 802.3at, can I use 2 ports with 802.3af?

    Regards

AP-535 has very few restrictions when powered by a single 802.3at POE source (USB port, second ethernet port), which can typically be avoided by using the IPM feature. So 802.3bt or dual 802.3at is typically not needed on this platform.

However, 802.3af (15.4W from the source, roughly 13.5W max available at the AP when using CAT5E or better) is not sufficient for this AP for meaningful operation, and even combining two of these sources is not enough (given the fact that we cannot ensure/control the power balance to be exactly 50/50 between the two sources, and therefore cannot count on 2x 13.5W but significantly less).

Sorry, long answer. The short version is that any combination of POE sources that includes an 802.3af one is not supported on AP-53x (or AP-555).

Thanks, I give it a go to figure it out.

If we want to setup AP-535 that powered by a single 802.3at POE source. May I know what should we do?

If you don't have 802.3at switches, you can use an injector to send power down 1 network cable.

Not sure what environment you have, but if you only have 'at' power, you will have to modify the IPM setting.

Thanks for reply. Yes, we only have single 'at' POE from Cisco switch.

About modify the IPM setting, do you mind share what setting we need to modify?

For Cisco switch (2960X), do we need adjust any setting? Example LLDP setting?

If you run Aruba Instant, follow this.
For a controller deployment, enable on the AP System Profile.

If you enable LLDP-MED on both AP and Switch, they can negotiate the actual required amount of power and the switch can allocate power that is not needed to other devices. Without that, the switch would allocate the full power 15.4W or 30W and risk running out of power budget.
