How do I change/expand my thinking to understand 8.0?

I've gone from two controllers at each site (master and backup) to a central HA pair and one local at each location, to one master at each location and a single "backup master" at a central location, leveraging Airwave to manage the configurations.

How does having a MM differ from having Airwave manage configurations?

How does this new architecture compare?

Where do I gain (or loose) flexibility?

Take a look at this thread for the state of affairs with AOS 8.0.

To sum it up, much more documentation and best practices will be available beginning in September.

To briefly answer your question, the MM would be responsible for configuration for all of your controllers. AirWave will be for monitoring and reporting.
