    I'm in the process of testing an 8.x Mobility Master setup. I moved from using bridged APs to using tunneled APs and have tagged the proper VLANs to the AP's respective controller but I've noticed that my wired Apple TVs aren't able to broadcast on those VLANs. I've set up AirGroups as specified on the User Guide, but I still face the same issue.

    I'm using 2 MM-VA 8.5.0.10 Mobility Masters with 2 MC-VA 8.5.0.10 Mobility Controllers in order to test this setup.

    @cjoseph

    I haven't seen this specific piece of documentation. I'll go through it and let you know the results

    I went through the document. It's pretty much the same as the User Manual section on airgroups. I ran through it and still can't see the apple tv.

    Apple TV use multicast traffic. Try to disable "Drop Broadcast and Multicast" in the virtual ap profile.

    @mkk

    I've checked the Virtual AP Profiles and none of them had that option enabled.

    To be honest, a feature of Airgroup is to be able to used with Drop Broadcasts and Multicast enabled.  You have the option of not Enabling Drop Broadcast and Multicast, but the performance will be degraded.  Airgroup allows you to keep that enabled to improve performance and still be able to discover mdns/dlna servers:

    Agree on that. Because its a test environment my approach would be to first test it with the bare minimums. Disable "Deny broadcast/multicast drops", no airgroups and no BCMC optimalitsation on the interface level.

    If the bare minimums works, then turn on "drop broadcast/multicast" and configure airgroups to optimize the network for better performance and airtime utilization.

    @mkk

    With Airgroups disabled and the "Drop Multicast and Broadcast Packets" option unchecked, I still can't see the Apple TV.

    Hi ManhattanCollege,

    • what do you mean by "can't see the Apple TV", does this means you don't see airplay icon on a wireless client device?
    • Is the wired Apple TV in the same VLAN as the wireless client device?
    • What is the derived user-role of the wireless client device?

    Correct, Apple Device and other devices that were able to cast to the Apple TV in bridge mode are unable to locate the Apple TV.

    • Is the wired Apple TV in the same VLAN as the wireless client device?

    Yes, the Apple TV and wireless client are on the same VLAN

    • What is the derived user-role of the wireless client device?

    For testing, I've made so the user inherits the "Authenticated" role on connecting to the test network.

    Strange thats not working with the bare minimals. I will test it this evening and see what happens.

    Is the wireless client and the Apple TV on the same layer 2 VLAN?

    Yes, the client and the Apple TV are on the same L2 VLAN.

    Hi ManhattanCollege,

    I did a quicktest for you, here my results

    SPECS:

    • Aruba 2x9004 Controllers
    • ArubaOS 8.7.1.0 in a L2 cluster
    • AP-325
    • AppleTV Gen3
    • iPhone8 last iOS14 version
    • iPhone and AppleTV (wired) both on vlan 201

    TEST:

    • Create a new SSID with bare minimums. (next next finisch)
    • Forwarding mode Tunneled
    • User-role "authenicated
    • No deny "broadcast multicast traffic" on the VAP profile.
    • No Broadcast Multicast Optimalization (BCMO) on the VLAN interface
    • No Airgroups
    • See attached PDF with my settings

    RESULTS:

    Hope this helps.
