I have a client that is installing a network-based timeclock for employees. Occasionally on bot it gets a dhcp address from the Aruba controller on the network rather than from the wired side dhcp server. This renders it inoperable and requires a restart. Any ideas what might be going on? We think it is a wired network issue, but welcome all input.

It should be basic DHCP Request / DHCP Offer type of scenario.

If they are on the same VLAN (as in example, the wired port of the wireless controller is on VLAN X and the DHCP server from the Wireless Controller is also on VLAN X) and also the Network-Based time clock is on the same VLAN X, this can be the issue.

Try to move the Network-based time clock on a different VLAN (example VLAN Y) and route traffic to that destination (Network/subnet of VLAN X must have the capability to see the network/subnet of VLAN Y, if necessary)
